New Year’s Resolutions

February 6th, 2009

Okay, while it was still January, I could pretend that I was just busy and couldn’t quite get around to them, but I was sure that I’d get them posted eventually. Now that it’s February, my New Year’s resolutions are officially LATE.

But here they are, behind a handy-dandy more tag:

  1. Write 3 full books: I’m not ready, quite yet, to announce what I’m writing right now, but I’m writing it and it’s coming along swimmingly. As soon as the first draft’s done, I’ll be posting an offer to read it. I’ll also, after completing the 2nd (and hopefully final) draft, be reading it aloud and producing it via Podiobooks. Of course, that’s only one book, what about the other two? Well, they’re part of the secret, so you’ll have to stay tuned.
  2. Continue Volcanicast, and make it better and more popular: Volcanicast is already much better, sound-quality wise, than it was at the beginning of the year. With many thanks to our new editor Crazy Nutso, it’s also much more consistently 60ish minutes long. Consistency and quality plus a bit of marketing should hopefully grow the audience as time goes on.
  3. Do 3 episodes of Today in Geeky History a week, all year: Today in Geeky History is Jenny and my new podcast and it’s - quite frankly - awesome. You should be listening to it. It’s only 5 minutes (or less!) a day, 3 days a week, and you’ll learn some cool geeky things like how the Air Force lost a nuclear bomb, how Galileo discovered Jupiter’s moons, and how a computer defeated a chess grandmaster. We’re hoping to, in 3 years, cover every day of the year with at least one show per day. Putting out 3 shows a week is a great first step for that.
  4. Visit a Dentist: It was good enough for last year, it should be good enough for this year.
  5. Visit a Doctor: Ditto. I’m not getting any younger.
  6. Furnish my apartment: Included in this is:
    • Bed Frame (Currently my mattress is on the floor)
    • Bookshelves (I’m thinking 2)
    • Desk for the living room
    • Bar
    • Comfy chair
    • Kitchen prep area with overhang for pots and pans
    • Studio table with 4 mounted mics and mounting areas for all the equipment
    • Pictures in frames, including 2 *large* prints.

Yes, I think I can do most of these this year.

  7. Re-establish a workout routine: I’ve got a free workout room not 100 yards from my front door. I should be using it, possibly daily and assuredly every workday. Also, as soon as it’s above 20 degrees outside at night, I need to start walking around the building at work again.
  8. Eat better: Trips to Chipotle, Taco Bell, and McDonalds on the way to work have got to end. I need to, when I have time, prepare healthy tasty meals to take to work and when I don’t have time, I need to go to Subway. I also need to replace chips, cookies, donuts and candy with fruit and vegetables. I’ve made good inroads on this one of late, and am pretty confident that I can maintain my good ways.
  9. Don’t screw it up with Jenny: This is the most important point on the list, for 2 reasons: I have a history of screwing up relationships, and Jenny’s easily the most compatible person I’ve ever been with. If I can’t make it work with her, I’m throwing in the towel.
  10. Make Resolutions for 2010: Hey, I (finally) got my 2009 resolutions in, so I figure I better get my foot in the door early for 2010.

And my resolution is to keep it that way :)
