TV I Watch Part 1: Burn Notice

I watch a lot of TV, at least compared to how much I used to watch, and especially considering my cable bill: $0.

I bought a computer to hook to my TV and stream Hulu through. I can also stream Netflix through my Xbox. Via either of these devices I can watch DVDs either rented or owned. Between these multiple outlets, I have all the TV I could ever hope to watch1 for far less than I would pay for any cable service, no matter how basic. And with far less commercials, as well.

So I figured I’d wax poetical on the shows I DO watch. Maybe it’ll give you a window into my mind or at least give you some ideas of shows that, if you like what I like, you might like.

  1. It seems I actually have more than I can watch. I’m constantly struggling to keep up and new shows keep coming out []

Season Premiere: Stargate: Atlantis Season 5

July 10th, 2008

2 days, 2 season premieres. This makes me a Happy Wesley.

Stargate: Atlantis is the superior* spinoff to Stargate: SG1, the decade-long TV series based off of the 1994 movie, Stargate. The season 5 permiere of Atlantis is scheduled to kick off Friday (tonight for most of you, but I’m again early with my daily post. Sue me) at 9:00pm on SciFi.

This is not a review so I’m not going into the details, but let me say that over the past several years various shows have - as absolutely stellar episodes have come out - occasionally risen to the top of my favorite shows list to be my single favorite show. Battlestar Galactica made it there during the escape from New Caprica, and again during the trial of Baltar. Heroes was there when Hiro saw the upcoming destruction of New York. Doctor Who was just there as they ran for their lives in The Library. However, when nothing special is happening on any show there has to be a default, a favorite show of mine that just sits at the top of the list when nobody else is doing anything. That show is Stargate: Atlantis.

So yeah, I’m looking forward to this.

*Yes, I said Superior. As in better. This is not opinion, it’s fact. Before all you SG1 fanbois (and grrls) get your panties in a knot, I’m not saying anything is wrong with SG1. I’ve seen every episode of SG1. I saw them in order. I’ve seen Ark of Truth and will be seeing (and reviewing) Continuum when it comes out. I absolutely loved the long story arcs, characters, and evolving storyline of SG1. The only problem is, Atlantis does all of that and does it better. Plus, it’s still on the air.

Season Premiere: Burn Notice Season 2

July 9th, 2008

This isn’t a review of the show. However, Burn Notice is great and you should be watching it.

The Season 2 premiere is on Thursday the 10th of July (Most likely “Today” to you, as Wednesday’s only got a few hours left in it) and you should watch it. Also, they are doing what appears to be all but the first few episodes of the first season, 9 episodes (out of 12) including the 2-part season finale. So, warm up those DVRs, delete all that crap you’ll never watch, and record them all! And don’t forget to set up a season pass for Season 2.

It’s on USA, and the Marathon starts at 8:30am. And it’s got Bruce Campbell in it!
